Pedantic filler, but skip to the last part. Anecdotal, of course, but the author suggests that because Britons grip the wheel with their dominant hand and work a stick shift with the left, they naturally drive more stick shifts and continue to build more manual transmissions because it's more comfortable and safe etc. than their fellow American, French, etc. motorists gripping a wheel with their non-dominant hand while working a stick. It seems like a reach, but I'll bet if someone studied it they'd find an actual connection. The reason I find it mostly garbage is this: close your eyes and imagine driving: your left hand working a steering wheel may as well be your right for how effective it is—you've trained your body to make your left hand at least as good as your right when it comes to driving.

"Why do Brits drive on the left?" It's because left is right and right is wrong.

On the 8th September 2009 Samoa switched to driving on the left.
